Let me give you a description of the area: Mulberry Creek Vineyard is located in the county of Cullman, in the great State of Alabama, approximately 20 miles east of the City of Cullman and just eat of the Town of Holly Pond, right off of Highway 278E. Cullman is located approximately 1/2 way between Birmingham, to my south, and Huntsville, to my north. The County of Cullman is officially a dry county, yet the city boasts an Oktoberfest each year! Yep!, you heard me right. Cullman boasts an Oktoberfest each year, but cannot serve alcohol. Strange but true.
Now back to the vineyard idea. My dream of this vineyard is to produce wine grapes of different varieties that I can sell to other wineries found in the State of Alabama, such as, Ozan Winery, Wills Creek Vineyard and Bryant Vineyard, to name a few. Hey, if I cannot legally make wine here, then why not sell the fruit to other wineries instead? I have also talked with some other wineries into producing a small single barrel batch of these varieties that I am growing here at their locations and, eventually, hope to even sell it under the name of Mulberry Creek Vineyard. But that is 3-4 years off still and a lot can happen between now and then.
In the upcoming posts, I will -
- Describe to you the different grape varieties I am growing
- Show you pictures of the first row of vines planted
- Show you what happens when mother nature strikes
- Show sketches of the trellis system and irrigation system that I will be installing soon
- Show you pictures of experimental wines I am making in small batches.
- and more to come ............
So stay tuned ................................
More to be added soon. Check back. Have any questions? Email me at d_baeuerle@yahoo.com
